"I never knew you were so into this kind of thing"

    - A comment from a friend that I share my creating with-

So now I had fossil molds and had made some imitations of fossils. While thinking about how to string them, I just had to play with something else that has been my passion for some years now: Premo-Cernit metallics mixes. I got wild mixing some 7 different colours. Then I just played with the molds doing more and less perfect beads out of the molds. Was not trying to make "precise" copies but more tried to make bit variation. And variation did I get. So there I were with 113 different metallic fossil beads. I knew I wanted to make one of those "rich" necklaces out of them. Even though rich necklaces are REALLY not my thing. Or have been... I had a vision but it was very blurry.

But one thing was clear from the first vision: this is the lock system I wanted to use: two lobster claws making a handshake. Even though its small detail, it was something that I agonized over for some time. Even had to ask some people if this is acceptable way to string a necklace. As if a necklace police would come arrest me if I did not use the ring. Right.
After few comments from friends I am thinking about using the fossil bead cover I made to hide the lock. Or use something to "unshine" the gold on the lock. We shall see. I will sleep over it. At least one night.

After some trial and error and hours well spent crocheting this thing together here it is. (start the drums now, please)

Stainless fossils, 2003

necklace, polymer clay beads, cotton threads

58 cm, 194 g /23 inches, 6,8 ounces

Pictured on a plastic mannequin torso to show how it hangs. Actually I am not at all this skinny, the way the necklace lies on me is much more conformable and not this much of a V- shape.

A picture of the whole thing to show how it is constructed. It is symmetrical on weight even though the beads on both sides are unique. I did the sorting by eye and then weighted the beads on scale and did some swapping to get the weight right.

And here is a close-up picture from the beads. It is taken outside and the colours are pretty accurate on my monitor.

And the saga of fossils still continues. Keep watching this space. There will be more...
